What to Do to Rid Your Home of Bed Bugs
No one likes bed bugs in their home. That feeling of thinking something is always crawling on you is never pleasant and I am sure you know exactly what I am talking about because that is what it always feels like when your home has been invaded by pests. We are here to help, though. Getting rid of bed bugs in homes in Lexington, Kentucky can be a challenge, but we are here to give you a few tips on how to go about it.
When you find that your home has been invaded by pests, it is important to prepare for getting rid of them, whether you do it yourself or hire someone. First, you will want to reduce the clutter in your home. Clutter is a great hiding place for bed bugs and they will definitely take advantage. Of course, you will want to be sure you aren’t moving items from an infested area to a non-infested area. That will just make things worse. Next, you should make your bed an island. Basically, this means that you should move the bed at least six inches away from any wall it may touch. Then, make sure there are no bed bugs, larvae, or eggs on the bed, frame, or headboard. Cleaning the space is also incredibly important. You can heat treat clothing, bedding, and anything else that can withstand a dryer.
When it is time to get started, if you haven’t decided to hire a professional, you should begin by removing things from the room to be treated. Ensure that these things have been placed in plastic bags to make sure you aren’t spreading the pests. If you have some furniture that cannot be salvaged, dispose of it responsibly and be sure to mark it so no one is tempted to take it for themselves. You can either rip it or spray paint “Bed Bugs” on it.
There are numerous ways to kill bed bugs. You can use non-chemical methods, like the heat treatment we mentioned earlier. You can also use steam cleaners to clean carpets, baseboards, bed frames, and other furniture. While these can often be fairly effective, it is not necessarily going to completely eliminate the issue. This is where pesticides come in handy. There are a variety of EPA-approved pesticides that can completely get rid of bed bugs. Be sure that whatever you purchase is EPA-approved and says it works for bed bugs on the label.
