Ants can be one of the biggest pains to deal with when it comes to your home, especially in your kitchen. Once you see one, there are likely many more to come, so it is important to work quickly and efficiently to prevent an infestation. We are here to help! Read on to learn about how to get rid of ants in your kitchen in Lexington, Kentucky.
When you find ants in your home, it is important to figure out where they are coming from. How are they entering your home? You can figure this out by following the ants you have found for a few minutes and simply look for where they may be entering. These places could be cracks in the floor, doorways, windows, or even outside of the house, through siding or accent lights. Once you establish where the ants are coming from, you will better be able to focus your efforts toward preventing them from returning. While it can sometimes be a challenge, your life will be much easier if you can locate the actual ant nest that they are coming from. This way, you can simply spray that with a poison spray and be done.
It will also help you eliminate your ant problem to erase their trail. In order to do this, you must use a disinfecting solution because the trail is made of pheromones which can be smelled and followed by other ants. By using a mixture of ½ vinegar and ½ water in a spray bottle all over your kitchen, you will be able to eliminate their trail. You should also be sure to spray wherever you have seen ants crawling around before. However, be sure that you know that this mixture will not kill the ants that are already inside. It will simply prevent more from following.
In order to kill the ants that are already in your home, you should try setting some sort of pre-bait for them. You can set a small plate of sugary food, like jam or honey, as well as some sort of fried food. This will help you establish what kind of poisonous bait to set out. Then, set out the actual poisonous bait and wait for the ants to arrive and consume it. They will also take some of the bait back to the nest to the other ants, which will help further eliminate the problem.
