Insects can be scary, not only for us, as people, but for our pets, too. The spring and summer can be an awful time for pets because of the nuisance pests create. Pets love to be outdoors, playing in the warm summer sun, but when they come back inside covered in pests, life isn’t so great. We have some great suggestions for helping you keep your pets safe from mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, and other awful pests.

Giving your pet frequents bath can help deter pests. It is one of the best things you can do to defend against pests who want to live under your pet’s skin or fur. You should be sure to scrub in areas that are hidden, including in loose or wrinkled skin. You should also check your pet’s foot pads to remove any debris and also check there for ticks or other pests. In between toes is a great place for these pests to hide. Not only that, but pests are drawn to blood, so it is important to check your pet for wounds and make sure they are taken care of.

When it comes to mosquitoes, you can keep them away from your pet by keeping them inside when mosquitoes are most active. This is most commonly during dusk and dawn.

It will also help your pets if you keep your lawn mowed and taken care of. Ticks and other pests love to hide in tall grass, and of course, we all know our pets aren’t going to stay out of tall grass. They like to explore and what’s better to explore than tall grass, shrubs, and undergrowth? Be sure to mow your lawn often because ticks can be very dangerous to your pet’s health. They are known to carry dangerous diseases like Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, and ehrlichiosis.

One of the most important things you can do for your pet is check them frequently for fleas and ticks. Outside time is important for your pets to have fun and enjoy themselves, but you have to be sure that they are safe from pests. Not only should you be checking for pests themselves, but also for signs that they may be there such as licking, itching, and other unusual signals that might show your pet is uncomfortable.
