Over 9,000 people are currently working at the Toyota plant.

In 1782 a new settlement known as Lebanon was established by Baptist preacher Elijah Craig and his congregation. The area was originally considered part of Virginia and as such was incorporated by the state’s legislature in 1784. Craig was able to create mills manufacturing paper and cloth, which were a few of the first available to the west of the Appalachian Mountains. He also founded a school, the Rittenhouse Academy, which ultimately turned into present day Georgetown College. In 1790, the name of the town was changed to honor President George Washington, but was not formally recognized until 1846. Georgetown became the seat of government for Kentucky, when in 1792 it officially was declared the 15th U.S. state. Upon the end of the Civil War, the city turned into a railroad hub that was able to connect the Frankfort & Cincinnati, the Louisville Southern, and the Cincinnati Southern.

Georgetown prides itself on being having perfect reflection of the beauty and charm throughout the state but can be found distilled into their community. Georgetown may feel quaint; however, there are actually abundant attractions to keep individuals entertained. The equine industry is a staple in the state of Kentucky, and has had a heavy influence for the city too. Numerous farms as well as horsing events are plentiful for Georgetown. Bourbon is another Kentucky jewel, and several distilleries have made the city their home.
